Ingredients:

  • 2 cups heavy cream, chilled
  • 1 cup whole milk, chilled
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup crushed cookies or toasted nuts
  • 1/2 cup fresh berry swirls

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, sea salt, and whole milk. Whisk vigorously until the sugar crystals have completely dissolved.
  2. Stir in the chilled heavy cream and vanilla extract.
  3. Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to ensure a flash-freeze effect during churning.
  4. Pour the chilled mixture into the frozen ice cream maker bowl. Turn the machine on before pouring to prevent the base from freezing instantly to the sides.
  5. Churn on medium-high speed until the mixture thickens and begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl, reaching a soft-serve consistency.
  6. During the last 5 minutes of churning, add optional mix-ins such as chocolate chips, crushed cookies, or berries.
  7. Scoop the soft ice cream into an airtight freezer container, cover with plastic wrap to prevent freezer burn, and freeze for 4 hours to harden.
