Ingredients:
- 2 cups heavy cream, chilled
- 1 cup whole milk, chilled
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup crushed cookies or toasted nuts
- 1/2 cup fresh berry swirls
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, sea salt, and whole milk. Whisk vigorously until the sugar crystals have completely dissolved.
- Stir in the chilled heavy cream and vanilla extract.
- Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to ensure a flash-freeze effect during churning.
- Pour the chilled mixture into the frozen ice cream maker bowl. Turn the machine on before pouring to prevent the base from freezing instantly to the sides.
- Churn on medium-high speed until the mixture thickens and begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl, reaching a soft-serve consistency.
- During the last 5 minutes of churning, add optional mix-ins such as chocolate chips, crushed cookies, or berries.
- Scoop the soft ice cream into an airtight freezer container, cover with plastic wrap to prevent freezer burn, and freeze for 4 hours to harden.
